Format reference suites

Practical guides to the formats behind 3D, CAD, backup, game, GIS, publishing, settings, spreadsheet, text and web workflows.

How these guides are organized

Each suite covers a format family that does not fit the main converter categories. The pages explain what the formats are used for, where compatibility breaks, and which workflows need extra care. They are reference material, not a promise that every extension has a live converter. When a real tool exists, the related converter links point to it.

Start with the application that must open the result. A 3D format may carry only geometry, a CAD format may add engineering structure, and a page-layout file may depend on linked images and fonts. Keeping the source file, checking one sample before a batch, and confirming the destination format are the three habits that prevent most conversion surprises.

Use the suite cards below to compare format families, then follow the related links into a converter, category hub, or format guide when a supported workflow exists. A reference suite is useful when the file extension is unfamiliar, when a recipient cannot open the original, or when a 3D, CAD, GIS, publishing, or game pipeline needs the right exchange format. It is not a substitute for the application that owns the source data: complex projects, proprietary saves, and encrypted archives normally need their original software or an official export path. Read the notes before converting, keep a copy of the source, and validate one representative file before processing a whole folder. The guides are written for people who need compatibility decisions, not only a list of extensions.
