Convert PDF to Word Online

Convert PDF files to editable Word DOCX using a server-side LibreOffice PDF import. Upload up to 100 MB per file, convert a batch, and download the DOCX result. The tool is free, but scanned PDFs are not OCRed and complex layouts may reflow.

How to convert PDF to DOCX

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF

Add one or more PDF files to the queue. The server import runs on the PDF, not on a rendered screenshot.

  2. 2

    Start the conversion

Run the queue. LibreOffice imports the pages and writes a DOCX document with editable paragraphs and tables where possible.

  3. 3

    Review and download

Open the DOCX, check page breaks, fonts, and table structure, then download the copy you want to keep.

About Portable Document Format

Predictable layout on every device, strong print fidelity, universal viewers, and support for signatures and forms. Editing is harder than editing a word processor document; reflow, accessibility, and text extraction depend on how the PDF was produced.

About Microsoft Word Open XML document

Editable, structured, widely supported by office suites, and much easier to revise than a fixed-layout PDF. Layout can shift between Word, LibreOffice, and web editors; fonts and complex objects may not render identically.

Why convert PDF to DOCX?

  • Edit text, correct typos, and update dates without rebuilding the document from scratch.
  • Reuse paragraphs, tables, and lists from a report or contract in a new Word file.
  • Collaborate in a format that supports comments, tracked changes, and familiar office workflows.
  • Create an editable source document for a team that does not have a PDF editor.

Will quality change?

The output is editable, but it is not a pixel-perfect copy of the PDF. LibreOffice imports the page content into Word structures, so columns, text boxes, unusual fonts, tables, and page breaks can shift. Scanned pages remain images or plain text without OCR. Review the DOCX before sending it to anyone who expects the original layout.

Processing and limits

Processing
Server-side
Engine
LibreOffice Writer PDF import
Maximum size
100 MB per file.
Batch support
Yes, multiple PDFs can be queued and converted separately.
Quality controls
No quality slider. The conversion favors editable document structure over exact PDF layout.

The PDF is uploaded over HTTPS, imported with LibreOffice's writer_pdf_import filter, and converted to DOCX in an isolated server process. Temporary files are removed after the request. The download is generated from the converted document.

  • Scanned PDFs are not OCRed, so image-only pages do not become usable editable text.
  • Complex layouts, forms, annotations, and unusual fonts may not survive exactly.
  • Encrypted or password-protected PDFs should be unlocked before conversion.

Platform compatibility

DOCX opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs, Pages through import, and most mobile office suites. That makes the result easy to edit on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and browser-based office tools.

When not to convert

  • Do not use this tool for a scanned document that needs OCR; run OCR first, then convert the searchable PDF.
  • If the exact visual layout is legally or visually critical, keep the PDF and edit a separate copy.
  • Avoid converting forms and interactive PDFs when field behavior must remain intact.

Frequently asked questions

Is the converted Word document editable?
Yes. The tool produces a DOCX file with editable text and document structures. Layout fidelity varies, so review the result before replacing the PDF in a workflow.
Can it convert a scanned PDF to editable text?
No. Scanned pages need OCR. This converter imports the PDF structure but does not recognize text inside page images.
Will the layout match the PDF exactly?
Not exactly. Text boxes, multi-column layouts, unusual fonts, and forms can reflow when LibreOffice maps the PDF into Word structures.
Is the PDF uploaded to a server?
Yes. This is a server-side conversion because the PDF import and DOCX generation use LibreOffice. The file is transmitted over HTTPS and temporary working files are deleted after processing.
Can I convert several PDFs together?
Yes. Add multiple PDFs to the queue. Each file produces its own DOCX download, and completed files can be bundled into a ZIP.
What should I do with a password-protected PDF?
Unlock the PDF first, then upload the unlocked copy. Encryption can prevent the server importer from reading the document.
